Practice Overview and Representative Experience:
Clint Shaw joined the Firm in April 2000. He has over 15 years of civil and criminal litigation experience at the trial and appellate levels in Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. Shaw's practice includes most areas of litigation, with a primary emphasis on the defense of personal injury, insurance, workers' compensation, employment discrimination, and criminal matters.
Mr. Shaw has served as primary defense counsel representing clients in more than 100 jury and bench trials in the Circuit Courts of Virginia and the District of Columbia Superior Court on matters ranging from civil premises and automobile liability to toxic torts and criminal defense. He has also appeared before the Court of Appeals of Virginia, and before the Court of Appeals of Virginia sitting En Banc.
Mr. Shaw advises and represents individual and corporate clients regarding contractual matters, risk management, dispute resolution, employment and housing discrimination complaints, and claims made under the Fair Labor and Standards Act. He also represents Virginia and District of Columbia employers and their workers' compensation carriers and has defended workers' compensation claims at all levels from evidentiary hearings, to reviews before the Full Commission, the Court of Appeals in Virginia, the DC Department of Employment Services Compensation Review Board, and in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
From 1994 to 2000, Mr. Shaw exclusively practiced criminal law, serving as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and also as a criminal defense attorney in Virginia. He served two terms as an officer of the Lynchburg Junior Bar Association, was a member of the Virginia College of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and attended the National Criminal Defense College in Macon, Georgia.
A native of Arlington, Virginia - Mr. Shaw, his wife, and two young sons reside in Washington, DC, where they are members of St. David's Episcopal Church and are involved in several local charitable organizations. He enjoys his leisure time coaching his son's DC Stoddart league soccer team, and is an avid swimmer, golfer, and baseball enthusiast.
